U19 world cup teams

The first thing you should know is that 16 countries are participating in this competition. Each team has players aged 19 and under. Below we will tell you a little about each team’s squad.

Afghanistan Under 19s squad

This team has qualified 7 times in the U19 cup. In 2010, in their first cup, they finished in last place. Yet, that served as a training, because in the following ones they were improving rapidly. In 2018 they became a full member of the ICC and just that year, they reached the U19 semifinals.

Captain: Suliman Safi, Batting: Left Hand bat

At just 18 years old, Suliman is a star cricketer who has been playing professional cricket since 2019. He has led the national cricket team to the semi-finals twice. Although he does not yet have a defined position, he is emerging as a right-handed batsman.

United Arab Emirates Under 19s squad

It has qualified for the U19 World Cup only three times. In 2014 when they hosted the event, in 2020 and now in 2022. The UAE have been a member of the ICC since 1989. Their forte is in the U19 Asian Cup, where they have achieved victory on many occasions.

Captain: Alishan Sharafu. Opening batter

At the age of 19, he is already a star cricketer who has defined his playing role as opening batter. He has participated in one ODI and 6 T20 format matches. He has a batting average of 11.33, and a batting strike rate of 103.03, which is quite remarkable for his short career.

Sri Lanka

This team has qualified for the U19 World Cup nine times. Their first participation was in 1988. And for this 2022, they managed to enter the event by default, as New Zealand decided not to enter the competition due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. They have had a regular performance, as in all the opportunities they have participated, they have finished between 11th and 16th place.

It has participated officially since 1988 and is one of the strongest teams in the competition. They have been champions 3 times (in 1988, 2002 and 2010). Bangladesh Under-19s squad

They have been playing matches as a full member of the ICC since 1997.  Their performance at the beginning was quite regular, finishing between 5th to 11th place until 2014. However, from 2016 onwards their performance improved quite a bit, finishing in 3rd place. In 2020 they finished in first place taking the crown and obtaining the best statistics of the cup.

He is 19, and made his first professional cricketing debut as a List A professional cricketer for Shinepukur Cricket Club in 2018-19. In December 2019, he was appointed as the captain of the Bangladesh Under19 team for all international events. His performance is excellent and he is expected to be one of the next stars of world cricket.

They have participated in the U-19 official match trials since 1974. They have managed to qualify for all tournaments. However, their performance has had ups and downs throughout history. He is 18 years old and has already defined his playing position as Top order Batter. He has participated in the FC, Last A, and T20. He has a batting average of 22.50, a batting strike rate of 115.38. He started playing as a professional cricketer only in 2021.

It is another of the favourite and strongest teams in the competition, having been crowned 5 times champions in the event. They have 77% of ODIs, the best among all U19 teams.  The team was founded in 1979. They have been champions in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022. 

Besides, they have finished second on 3 occasions ( 2006, 2016 and 2020). They finished in third place in 2002 and 2004. In all other years, they have finished between 5th and 6th place.

Yash Dhull (Captain) Batting: right hand bat. Bowling: right arm offbreak

At the age of 19, Yash Vijay Dull is the team captain. Although he is yet to be defined, his possible role is as a batsman because his statistics are astonishing. For Dull, this is the first major event of his professional cricketing career.

Founded in 1998, this team has managed to participate in the U19 World Cup 8 times. In the qualifiers they are one of the strongest teams. However, in the cup, they have not managed to finish higher than 10th place. This shows that although their performance is strong, they are a team that has many weaknesses when the pressure mounts.

Tin Tector (Captain)

He is 19 years old. He made his first professional cricketer debut in February 2020 for Ireland Wolves against Namibia. In 2021 he was appointed captain of the Ireland U19 cricket team. His performance was good enough to lead the team to victory in the qualifiers.

With two cups to its name, this cricket team is among the top favourites in the competition. They have participated in every edition of the U19 World Cup. They have been back-to-back champions in 2004 and 2006. They have finished second in 1988, 2010 and 2014. They have finished third in 2000, 2008, 2018 and 2020.

Qasim Akram (Captain) Allrounder

He is 19 and his playing position is All-rounder. His first debut as a professional cricketer was in 2020, at Central Punjab in the domestic T20 cup. He also made his List A debut in January 2021 with an unbeaten 108 runs. He is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on because if he continues on this path, he will become a big cricketing star.
