IPL 2022 Rules
This year’s IPL will have a format like that of 2011’s IPL, where there are ten teams instead of the usual eight. There are also a few additional rules that have been introduced in this year’s tournament. Below are some of them.
- The tournament will be played by ten teams that will be divided into groups of five.
- In the group stage, each team will play 14 games, battling the other four teams in their group twice. That is one home and one away game.
- At the end of every match, the winning team will be awarded 2 points and the losing team will not receive any points. If there’s a draw or no result, each team will get 1 point.
- After the group stage, the four-game playoff will be held. Here four games will be played. The first will be Qualifier 1 which is held between teams ranked first and second in the group stage.
- The Eliminator stage will follow and this will be held between teams ranked third and fourth in the group stage.
- Next will be qualifier 2 which will be between the losing team of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator stage.
- Lastly, the finals will be between the winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2.
